Nightfall Mysteries: Curse of the Opera

If you're looking for a hidden object puzzle game that's also super-scary and creepy and makes you want to play in the daytime or with the lights on, then check out Nightfall Mysteries: Curse of the Opera.

If it were just pretty, then we might be less enthusiastic about this game. But Curse of the Opera has plenty of meat on its bones, not to mention some elements of graphical adventure gaming that you rarely encounter in a HOG.

You begin outside the opera group's caravan. You're not going anywhere -- the car's immobilized -- and the only bridge to the village has been washed away. Time to do some detecting! Before long, you'll be in the village and starting to meet the creepy locals.

While the game does re-use locations for multiple puzzles, this is fairly common in HOGs and adventure games and the games are challenging. There's also a mix of "find multiples of a certain type" and "remake the broken map" type mini-games.

Some of the scary effects in this game are really well done. You'll be staring at the screen, searching for something missing and suddenly a shadow will pass the window, along with a growling sound. Yipes!
