Farm video games: Magic Farm Ultimate Flower
Rating out of five:
★★★
+ Growing and defending your flowers is fun!
+ A well-balanced learning curve
– Graphics are poor by current standards
– The bugs get too hard to control and the dragon who 'helps' you is useless

Magic Farm: Ultimate Flower may sound like a game that's designed to appeal to girls, but in truth it's more of an action "bash the bugs" game than a gentle flower-themed concept. It's fun for a while, but ultimately lacks the quality of the more modern-looking The Fifth Gate.
There's a quest involving your missing parents, Leprechaun-looking guys, mystic princes and other oddballs. Enough about that. These guys exist purely to give you challenges, such as growing roses within a time limit, or raising 400 gold pieces.

Magic Farm is played in two main stages: before the day and during the day. Before the day, you refill water barrels, sell your flowers and plant new ones, or upgrade the garden with new barrels, a well, extra plants or more storage.
During the day is where the action takes place. You have to water plants and pick blooms, while hitting bugs to kill them. Most bugs drop helpful objects, like extra gold, water or experience, which can be used to level up your skills.

Plants which are harvested frequently improve and give you better quality blooms. The problem is, the plants will most likely be eaten, because the bugs get too tough too quickly and there are too many of them. Your pet dragon, who comes along a few levels in, can't help much because he's about as helpful as Barney the Dinosaur in a house fire.
That, and the world's most annoying music, bring down Magic Farm, though you should download the FREE 1hr trial anyway to try it out. Flower lovers and girl gamers might enjoy it.
