Edgar Allan Poe is for many horror fans the ultimate classical writer of tales of terror, greed and woe. It's only fitting that a HOG dedicated to his work features murders; can you solve them?

Typically you begin in a limited area area and must puzzle your way forward, but before long you'll have the run of Paris -- even if you're led through the locations in standard mode.

An expert mode makes life much more challenging and is recommended for older and more experienced gamers: you don't get sparkles on the landscape to guide you and the map won't tell you where you must go next. You're still not totally free, but it is a lot more difficult.

Expect the usual mix of hidden object scenes and mini-game puzzles. There's very little unusual about this game, but what there is has been done very well. While searching for items you will often have to interact with the background, opening drawers or drapes, or unlocking safes, to find the last few objects.

Throughout there are spooky moments, like a black, green-eyed shape that glides past the window, and a skeleton that rises from the floor inside a giant glass tube. Quite a spooky game, though not up to the scary standards set by Lost in the City.
