If you find yourself rolling your eyes at how girly the first scene of Skymist: The Lost Spirit Stones is, then never fear. You will soon be responsible for turning a Barbie-style HOG into a CyberPunk lookalike!

Yes, before long the fantasy wonderland you inhabit will become a post-war wasteland. To restore the magic to your world, you'll need to find those Spirit stones. And to do that, you'll need to find items and solve puzzles.

HOG scenes are well broken up by the exploration and puzzle areas. Most of these are not like the regular mini-games in so many HOGs. Instead, you have to combine items you've found to make new ones, unlock, open, smash or otherwise alter the room you're in. Do it right and you'll get the Spirit stone and restore that map location.

Along the way, you meet several characters involved in the story. The interaction is all scripted and never feels very revealing, but it can be amusing and does give your eyes a rest. The objects in this game aren't "cheated" -- you can find them all in time -- but they are very well-hidden. Objects important to the quest aren't always apparent, but the hint mode is useful and the graphics are superbly rendered by the standards of most downloadable adventure games.

Skymist: The Lost Spirit Stones is a five-star game in my book. I think of it more as an adventure than a HOG, but try it for yourself and make up your own mind. Excellent game.
