For those who dream of digging up exciting artefacts in exotic locations, Buried in Time provides a virtual desert environment; a relaxing get-away from the typically fast-paced world without the stress of experiencing either the heat waves or the piping hot sand.

Buried in Time is a slow-moving game for those who want to try their hand at managing a team of excavators, brushers, surveyors and analysts in search of a highly sought-after diamond. The game is lain out in a simple archaeological camp-style setting, with tents, sleeping mats and a small kitchen.

As the ‘dig manager’, you are assigned the task of excavating the areas of your camp marked with a red flag. The goal of the game is to find all the artefacts in a given area and solve the puzzles that go with them. Solving a puzzle uncovers yet more land, increasing the area on your map that you need to search.

Once an artifact is uncovered, it must be brushed and then analyzed. During the process, ‘fortune flowers’ pop up which you must find and bring to the Fortune Teller in exchange for money. Sometimes, museums buy the artefacts you unearth which further adds to your money stash. The money you earn can be put towards upgrading your supplies or hiring more workers to help you out.

The characters move around themselves, often they just wander the camp site talking to themselves, but you also have the power to drag them to any location within the camp and put them to work. Depending on what their skill is, they will either respond with a cheery “I can do that!” or, if they have no experience, are too tired or hungry, they will refuse and walk away. The more they perform their given skill, the higher their experience level becomes.

Keep an eye out for the stray dog, Rex. He shows up during the first phase and will continue to sniff out areas of interest that you might want to pay attention to.

There are various setbacks along the way, just like there would be in a real dig. There is no time limit, but that doesn’t mean this game is without challenges. The key rests in your ability to manage the camp site in such a way that there are always food and healthy workers available. Failure to do this will render your food supply empty and your workers hungry and sleep deprived.

Plan wisely or else your entire project might have to be shut down, and who would want risk their chance at discovering a priceless diamond artefact? With a solid and fun game style and mini-games to break things up, Buried in Time is a super game and well worth downloading to try out.
