This game had all the elements which can make for a great hidden object game, but it just didn't work on many levels.
I was excited enough to start on my journey with Amber in Born Into Darkness. What's not to like? Indiana Jones-style searches through ancient artifacts looking for a miraculous Shroud that will cure any illness... with a live and friendly vampire no less. All that with mini games and puzzles and my favourite; the hidden object game.
So, I set off and my excitement soon wore off. I couldn't help but be annoyed with Amber's awful voice-acting and the cheesy dialogue between her and her partner in crime. The interesting plotline soon fizzled and what should have been an intriguing game didn't really hold my interest.
The items to find are actually brighter than the others and the background, making them a bit too easy to pick out. The objects are also off-scale, which doesn't really bother me but may bother some.
There's a large group of experienced and loyal fans of the hidden object game out there who expect more from their HOG. Good reviews of the game seem to come from those players who haven't been playing this game type for very long. The games themselves could have been more challenging.
Born Into Darkness could have had more intrigue and action, what with vampires lurking about. It's not really suited for children because of the graphic nature of the storyline, unless you have a little Tim Burton in the making.
All in all a bit of a disappointment if you've played some of the really good HOG out there. You can still get it free from GameHouse if you want...
