Acropolis
Rating out of five:
★★★
+ Good brain exercise
+ Pleasant enough game
– Would have benefited from charismatic characters, a storyline, anything!

Acropolis is a word game. A decent word game. And I feel guilty saying this, because ALL word games are essentially good for your brain, right? And they're great for kids to improve spelling, grammar, communication skills, and how to be successful and happy in life, right? But this game was also a bit boring.
You get tiles laid out in different configurations, and have to make words using letters which are connected vertically or horizontally. It's pretty easy to make small words, but make too many, and your life meter runs out! The point is to use every tile on the board, until the whole board's changed from yellow to gold.
If you make longer, better words, you get special trophies. The power-ups are pretty basic; wild tiles which stand for any letter, ones that give you an extra hint or allow you to reshuffle the board. I rarely had to reshuffle. I guess after a while I felt a bit claustrophobic on the board and it was just more of the same.
You can really challenge yourself and try to make bigger words, by trying to predict which letters will fall into the next slot, and estimate what you need for a better word. It's as difficult as you want to make it.
Acropolis is kind of like the guy your mum's friend set you up with, who's nice and decent, and probably good for you, but also slightly boring. So I say, you should still play this game, because it's a nice way to pass some time, and it's not a complete waste of it. It's just hard to get too excited. Ahem… enjoy!
